Back-to-school season has arrived, and with it comes the excitement and chaos of a new school year. As we frantically work to gather the supplies our kids need, we are reminded that the relaxing days of summer are gone, and the schedules and routines are back again.
Many families associate the school year with stress, but it doesn’t have to be that way. With careful planning, a positive attitude, and these simple tips, your family can have the stress-free school year you’ve always dreamed of.
With school back in session, our calendars are full. From extracurricular activities and playdates, to medical appointments and family events, it can be overwhelming to keep track of who is doing what, and when. Finding a system that works for you, whether that means a paper planner, a smartphone app, or a simple sticky note, is vital to ensuring your school year is well planned out.
Busy weeknights are challenging, when you have a hungry family and not a lot of time to get a healthy meal on the table. One thing that I’ve found to be useful, is to choose a day during the weekend to do some meal preparations for the week ahead. I generally freeze a few meal options my family enjoys (lasagna, enchiladas, etc.), as well as prepare chopped veggies for stir-fry, soup, and more. Having these foods available and easy to grab when we get home late, or are short on time, makes our school nights much less hectic.
Kids (and adults) need downtime to relax and recharge. Children today often have packed schedules, without enough time to just play and explore their own interests. It’s easy to get caught up in the belief that busy is necessary, but when we step back and allow for more unscheduled time in our days, we’re happier, less stressed, and able to focus on the things in our lives that really matter to us.
Small tasks, such as making lunches and setting clothes out each night before bed, or having backpacks, shoes, and coats near the door, ready to go, can have a huge impact on school mornings for the entire family. Nobody wants to start their day rushing around looking for the items they need. A few minor preparations the night before can help your family start the school day on a positive note.
Organization is the key to a stress-free school year, for students, parents, and educators. When you have the right tools and supplies, it’s easy to stay on task, and meet deadlines.
My family has been using Mead Five Star products for years, to help keep us organized. With 4 kids in kindergarten through college, I need school supplies that are durable, and will last all year long, eliminating the worry or cost associated with replacing broken items.
